Rev. Floyd Thompkins, Director of the Center for Innovation in Ministry, recently spoke at the 50th Annual Bay Cities District Conference. Rev. Thompkins led a workshop on March 24, 2017 on the conference’s theme “Church Growth Matters.”

The workshop was based on Matthew 9:36-38, and looked at the difference between church health and church growth. Rev. Thompkins noted that healthy churches are perceived as compassionate, connected to their community, purpose driven, hard working with volunteers and harvest themed. He then looked at recent research on the decline of church in many areas, particularly the Pacific coast and with young adults. Finally, he offered suggestions for pastors working to grow their churches, which included offering small groups, relevant content and operating with integrity and transparency.

The conference was a part of the Bay Cities District’s year-long focus on “Implementing Purposeful Ministries that are Intentional, Instructional and Inspirational.”
